Where does motivation come from?

We all have experienced those times where we say “I’m just not motivated”.  At least, I like to think we all experience those times. It’s a head space that can be consuming.

Have you ever noticed that what you utter to yourself, just makes it more real? The more times you say it or hear it, just confirms that yep, that’s right I’m just gonna stay put.

It has taken me around 10 years to realize that when this phrase goes through my mind, it is the exact time I need to do something. Otherwise, for me, it’s a downward slope.

What I mean by ‘do something’ is setting out to accomplish any task as small as it may be. Sometimes that’s washing my hair and not putting it off another day, sometimes it’s unloading the dishwasher, other times it’s getting to work 15 minutes earlier than usual.I most sense myself struggling to fight off these de-motivated thoughts after an extra difficult night of sleep.

Did I mention I have 2 kids? I mean, just kidding, they sleep like angel’s every night and I wake up feeling completely refreshed and ready to take on every day. #saidnomomever

Typically, the task I gravitate toward is some sort of workout. It always provides me a complete change of mindset and powers me with confidence and energy. I know some of you might think I’m nuts that this is the first thing I do, but don’t knock it until you try it as they say! You’d be surprised what it does for your mindset.

I always considered running, weights or a good HIIT workout my therapy. That was until I really dove back into yoga 6 years ago. Now, there are some days that require the ‘therapy’ of HIIT and some that require yoga.

Find your jam.

Find your people.

And most importantly, love yourself where you are.

And remember…

Motivation comes from doing, not the other way around.
